Launched in context of the 708th anniversary of Surabaya city in 2001, Surabaya Memory aims to encourage society’s awareness of capturing and preserving Surabaya city’s heritage. In striving towards its goal, Surabaya Memory elements feature a digital collection and website. Onsite elements feature various outreach programs and activities specially designed to encourage cultural heritage awareness in a fun and enjoyable manner.
Surabaya Memory contains ancients’ photographs, ancient maps, manuscripts, and other types of documents that captured the development of the city. Only the digital surrogates of documents are stored in Surabaya Memory, while the original/physical documents have been returned to their respective owners.
